Create a Positive Bar
Experience

Workshop

Within the canteen experience lies the bar environment, which also includes also the process of a payment card. In this context, a workshop was held for students to think about a positive experience in that environment. This workshop allowed an understanding of some issues within the space and enabled students to present potential solutions. Using an adapted version of the speculative game "The Thing from the Future", students were engaged in creative problem-solving. The game involves imagining future scenarios by combining prompts from different categories. In this workshop, students selected three cards: one representing the school community (staff or student), another one representing an element of the bar (food, furniture, payment card reloading, physical space, or other), and the other one representing a mood (satisfactory, exciting, harmonious, refreshing, comfortable, calm, fun, motivating, safe, or inspiring).

Based on these prompts, they designed and described a positive experience for the bar. In the end, the students' solutions were translated into a bar layout which included: a payment card reloading machine to free up the staff and reduce inconveniences; a buffet-style area with lighter and more varied meals; including vegetarian options; speakers to play music; making the space more motivating; a comfortable area within the bar featuring beanbags and greenery and an outdoor patio with foosball and ping pong tables.
